I finally found the time, and the emotional, physical, and mental bandwidth to write, complete, edit, and submit a poem a couple of weeks ago. It was rejected and that felt…actually that felt pretty good. Writing something for it to be rejected is a tiny window of situation normal amidst an ever evolving multi-directional maelstrom called my current life where even the mundane feels a bit fraught.
The other thing I did was art. Yep . I submitted my own art to the Incognito Art Show held in Sydney (and online). The trick is they don’t reject entries if artists follow their rules. The art show is a fundraiser for charities involved in art and disability so, there is nothing in it for me, except to say my art will be exhibited (hopefully – not all pieces make it onto a real wall) in a real life actual gallery for real art made by artists. Why did I do this? Well, the bar was low: it is free to enter, entrants are supplied with three A5 three boards to either use as is or stick their art on, and return via post (at the art show’s expense) by the deadline. In addition, while the number of entrants is huge, no one piece can win all the attention, as all entries are same size, anonymous, and the same price. I found these rules and limits helpful. I had enough resources that it did not stretch me too far, and I got to be creative and do something without too much guilt.
Anyway, if people wish to purchase a piece they can visit the site or the gallery. Those who purchase pieces may end up with work by a famous artist or a work by me but will buy what they like because they like it, for a good cause. Once pieces are sold the artist is revealed. You can visit online here.
