Characters You Hate
I’ve attempted to create one character that is terrifying and somehow evil incarnate. It’s a horror SF being I won’t describe here, but as unredeemable as its actions are, it is an ‘it’. There’s even something I made beautiful about it. So, I can’t hate it, even as I wrote how its actions are what humans would consider despicable. What’s worse to me, are characters who, for whatever reason, bore me. I don’t mean deliberate Eric Olthwaite humour boring, but unintended flat boring. I can hate them and their creators for that and so, try not to make my characters boring.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just opened to sold out audiences, and everyone loves the original trilogy’s villain, Darth Vader. But he is a favourite of many fans’. What about characters that are absolutely hated by readers? But what if those characters are hated by their creators?
